On this beginners sewing course you will learn how to use a sewing machine by working through various samples.

Alice will show you how to use a sewing machine, working through all the dials and controls such as tension, stitch length, pedal control etc. Then you will be given a 'driving test' piece of fabric to practice sewing straight lines and curved lines. After you will work through various samples such as seams, patchwork, piping, applique etc. to broaden your knowledge of sewing techniques and what they are used for. By the end of the 3 weeks you will made a small tote bag (like the ones picture) using your new skills, to take away with you.

The textiles studio has sewing machines and sewing equipment including the fabric to make the bags so you don't need to bring anything with. Although if you do have your own sewing machine that you would like to learn to use then please do bring it along with you. Also if you have any fabric that you wish to use for the bags you may bring that too.
